Welcome to Croydon Children’s Social Care

Councillor Alisa Flemming, Cabinet member for children and young people

“Croydon is a phenomenal place – with layers of history, diverse cultures and opportunity. Come and explore Croydon for yourself and you’ll see this reflected in the historic market and town centre, as well as the street art, Boxpark and local district centres. I love living here – and I feel proud to call myself a Croydonian. I am excited about the changes that are taking place. The investment into infrastructure, jobs and educational provision within the borough will help to transform many lives.”

“Croydon has more young people aged 0-19 years old living here than any other London borough. As a result it is a fantastically vibrant and creative place to live. We want to ensure that we give all of our youth the best possible start in life through supportive services such as the Best Start programme aimed at 0-19 year olds, right through to our educational and cultural offers, and for those families that may need extra support through children’s services.”

“Our vision for children’s services is that children who live here will be safe, healthy, happy and will aspire to be the best they can be. After all the future is theirs.”

“As lead member for children and young people I am committed to overseeing the delivery of this vision. This is one of our top priorities and we are investing a further £10 million into front line social work services in Croydon to ensure that you have all that is necessary to deliver outcomes for children, young people and families’.”

“If you are looking for a challenging, but most definitely rewarding place to work, Croydon could be the answer. I look forward to you joining us to continue the work of transforming lives and changing future’s.”

Barbara Peacock, Executive director of People

“Croydon is a place where you can come as a social worker and make a real difference in the lives of children. Front line social workers tell me that one of the things they love about Croydon is the diversity of our population and the wide range of needs, sometimes complex, that you get work with. Croydon is now a place where you can grow your skills and practice. It is a place where you can influence what happens and where you can help build our more open culture. Our social workers have been instrumental in helping us develop our improvement plan, their input, energy and determination has been invaluable and will continue to be so.”

“We accept the Ofsted judgement of the services following our inspection in summer of 2017 and are determined to make Croydon a place where social work practice can thrive and make a real difference in the lives of children. Children’s services are no longer on their own – the whole of the Council is prioritising the improvements that needs to be made and this has led to some strong early improvements. These early successes and focused determination has been recognised by the commissioner and by the Department for Education who are clear that Croydon Council will continue to run their own children’s services. We have a lot more to do but we are heading in the right direction.”

“What we are looking for is social workers and first line managers with a passion for social work and working with children and their families. You can listen to what staff who work here say – hear it directly from them and consider if you want to make your mark and be part of our improvement journey.”

“We hope you will find all the information you need here and be as inspired as we are. We look forward to receiving your application.”
